he U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly last week to ban Mexican trucks from hauling cargo on American highways. The 74–24 vote was aimed at blocking a federal pilot program that gives Mexican trucking companies full access to U.S. roadways. The program has drawn fierce opposition from consumer safety groups and anti-immigration groups, which say Mexican trucks are unregulated, dirty, and unsafe. The House has already passed a similar measure, and now Congress will try to reconcile the two bills.
