It's been nearly seven years since Carrie Bradshaw gave her final, pun-filled voiceover on "Sex and the City," but HBO's hit series has continued to live on...and on. After two poorly reviewed films, it seems yet another "SATC" spinoff may be in the works. According to an MSN Australia blog, studio bosses are talking about a movie prequel to the series, based on an upcoming book called Summer and the City, written by Candace Bushnell, who also authored the series' source material. Reportedly, "SATC" producer Michael Patrick King is interested in having Blake Lively ("Gossip Girl", The Town) play a 19-year-old version of Carrie just arriving in New York. Sarah Jessica Parker and the series' other stars wouldn't be featured. Could this possibly work? (Watch a report about the rumor)

Sure, it's a good idea: This could be a "great way to keep the series fresh, and introduce Carrie Bradshaw to a younger audience," says Ethan Anderton at FirstShowing.net. While I'm not that excited myself, teen girls love "Gossip Girl," so having Blake Lively step into Carrie Bradshaw's Jimmy Choos is a "great way to reboot the series."
"Blake Lively to lead Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries?"

I'm not so sure: While the talented Lively "could make for a charming and endearing younger version of Carrie Bradshaw onscreen," I'm not certain "it's worth her (or anyone else's) time to keep the Sex and the City franchise alive," says Sandy Schaefer at Screen Rant. But hey, "so long as it doesn't involve Carrie and her companions 'liberating' the Middle East, la Sex and the City 2, it will be a step up."
"Sex and the City prequel with Blake Lively being considered"

Give it a rest already: "It doesn't make sense to make this movie at all," says Rosie Gray at BlackBook. Bombshell Blake Lively doesn't have the same "imperfect looks" that made Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie "relatable" and allowed her to pull off those "goofy outfits." And, all "these relentless movies are ruining a fantastic television show." It's time we let the fabulous franchise "go to its well-deserved final resting place" and create something new and original.
"Should Blake Lively revive Sex and the City?"

Nah, milk it for all it's worth: "From a business standpoint, this couldn't be more perfect," says Adam Quigley at Slash Film. Attempts to make the aging stars of the TV series look young and glamorous in the last movie were "awkward" and a "perpetual source of snide ridicule." A prequel "allows the franchise to retain its brand recognition while also introducing a new batch of hot young starlets." And, it will appeal both to the women who love the show and new, younger fans who just love Lively. Besides, "it's based on source material by the author whose book was the basis for the series to begin with," so "there's no room for anyone to complain."
