Panetta salutes gays in the military
In a video message, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta thanked gay and lesbian members of the military, telling them, "Now you can be proud of serving your country, and be proud of who you are," in reference to the 2011 repeal of the military's "dont ask, don't tell" policy. Panetta's remarks come as the Pentagon prepares to mark June as gay pride month.
