s a superpower, the U.S. is often called upon to intervene in global matters. But our efforts can easily offend, interpreted as meddling and jingoism. Sometimes the uproar is provoked by things beyond the U.S. government's control, as with the protests that have erupted across the Arab world — like this one in Jakarta — in response to an obscure, American-made, anti-Muslim video.
