For the second time, TIME magazine has named President Obama its "Person of the Year." Managing Editor Rick Stengel revealed the magazine's new cover — featuring a stoic and rather stern Obama staring intently into the distance, draped in shadow and dramatically back-lit — Wednesday morning on the TODAY show. Obama previously won "Person of the Year" in 2008 as president-elect. In fact, he's arguably a three-time winner, as "You" were declared Person of the Year in 2006.
This time around, TIME chose Obama, Stengel writes, "for finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union." Reaction has been mixed. Some rallied to congratulate the president, while others were annoyed with TIME's somewhat unoriginal choice. Here, a sampling from Twitter:
I think choosing the president for Time man of the year, is a bit 'too easy and obvious' I prefer an ordinary person did extraordinary thing

Obama winning TIME Person of the Year seems like a huge copout. Boring.
