Sure, the resemblance is uncanny. But when news broke several months ago that Ashton Kutcher — yes, he of of Punk'd fame — was billed to play Apple founder Steve Jobs in a dramatic role, many wondered the same thing: Uh, really?
In the clip from iJOBS (which will premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, and open nationwide on April 19), Kutcher's Jobs relentlessly pesters Steve Wozniak (Josh Gad) to build a personal computer, using his infamous "reality distortion field" to expound on a revolutionary new operating system that could change the way we use computers. Forever. (The real Wozniak says this scene never actually happened.)
How does the That '70s Show alum fare? The reviews were mixed. "Kutcher does a good impersonation of the young Steve," says Jesus Diaz at Gizmodo, and the clip "actually looks pretty decent! We might have to eat our words." Others, however, weren't nearly as impressed. "Many of you have probably not slept for wondering what Ashton Kutcher would do to Steve Jobs," says Chris Matyszczyk at CNET. "It's clear that Kutcher has worked hard on the timber of the voice. I'm sure he's spent many hours studying Jobs' mannerisms and quirks. And yet I still find myself seeing as much of Ashton Kutcher here as I do of Jobs." For what it's worth, we tend to agree.
