It's a happy day for gays. At 12:01 Thursday morning, Minnesota and Rhode Island became the 12th and 13th states to legalize same-sex marriage. Jeff Isaacson (left) and Al Giraud (right) were the first gay couple to tie the knot in Minnesota, but dozens more lined up at the Minneapolis City Hall to be married by Mayor R.T. Rybak (center).

Cathy ten Broeke (left) and Margaret Miles (right) were the first lesbian couple to marry as the clock struck midnight. Joined by their 5-year-old son, Louis, the threesome said "we do" in unison and made it official.

"I didn't expect to cry quite that hard," a beaming ten Broeke told the Associated Press.
