This is the sun your eyes can't see
And you thought it was just yellow…

urns out, that big object in the sky is pretty psychedelic.

At least, it looks that way when NASA scientists turn their telescopes toward the stars. This image is a compilation of the different wavelengths recorded at the Solar Dynamics Observatory.

Invisible to the naked eye, the wavelengths translate into distinct colors when the SDO converts the images. Scientists use the resulting rainbow of hues to observe how the sun's particles and heat move.
