Gossip: Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney is planning to release a 14-minute experimental Beatles recording that fans have long believed was only a myth.

Paul McCartney this week said he wants to release a 14-minute experimental Beatles recording that fans have long believed was only a myth. The Beatles recorded “Carnival of Light” in 1967, but never released it. The avant-garde track features an array of random sounds ranging from distorted guitar and organ to gargling and screaming. “I said, ‘All I want you to do is just wander around all the stuff, bang it, shout, play it. It doesn’t need to make any sense,’” McCartney recalled telling the band. He wanted to include the track on the 1990s Anthology compilations, but Ringo Starr and George Harrison vetoed the idea, calling the recording “rubbish.”
