eing There
(Warner Bros., $20)
Being There capped a “great ’70s streak” for director Hal Ashby, said USA Today. His adaptation of Jerzy Kosinski’s seriocomic book “boasts brilliant, Oscar-nominated Peter Sellers in his penultimate role.” Melvyn Douglas also won an Oscar, and Shirley MacLaine makes “a great Sellers foil.”

I’ve Loved You So Long
(Sony Classics, $28.96)
Kristin Scott Thomas steals the show in this “devastating French-language drama about an ex-con with a horrific secret,” said Entertainment Weekly. Wearing no makeup and speaking flawless French, “she’s all quiet, sharply etched details—the sort of subtle turn that Oscar tends to ignore.”

Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired
(Velocity/Thinkfilm, $27.98)
Marina Zenovich’s documentary is “gripping, funny, and a model of fairness,” said Huffingtonpost.com. Focusing on the sex scandal that drove the director into exile, Zenovich digs up new revelations even as she “details a fascinating bit of Hollywood history.”
