Thousands of people descended upon Cairns to witness a total eclipse of the sun on Nov. 14. The celestial wonder was visible from only a narrow vantage point that cut across Australia's northern tip and stretched into the southern Pacific. An hour after sunrise, the moon passed directly in front of the sun, casting its cool shadow over the beaches. Here, a selection of photos from the wondrous event.
