1. Maryland mall shooting leaves three dead

A gunman opened fire in a crowded shopping mall in Columbia, Md., on Saturday, leaving three people dead and several more wounded. The suspect was among the victims. Howard County Police announced late Saturday that officers had located and disabled two "crude devices" in the gunman's belongings "that appeared to be an attempt at making explosives using fireworks." Police have tentatively identified the gunman but are not ready to publicly release his name. [USA Today]

2. Deaths mar Egypt's anniversary of revolution

At least 49 people were killed and 247 wounded in violence in Cairo as Egypt marked the third anniversary of the Jan. 25 revolution that brought down longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak. Dozens more people were wounded in clashes throughout the country between anti-government protesters and security forces. [CNN]

3. Hollande and Trierweiler officially split

French president François Hollande announced Saturday that he is "putting an end" to his "shared life" with his partner, de facto First Lady Valérie Trierweiler. Trierweiler has since moved out of the presidential palace. The pair, who had been together for seven years, split amid rumors that Hollande carried on a two-year affair with French actress Julie Gayet. Those reports led to Trierweiler staying a week in the hospital, which she left last week. [Washington Post]

4. Protests continue in Ukraine after president's proposed power-sharing deal

Protests in Ukraine show no sign of ending after Ukrainian opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk rejected President Viktor Yanukovych's offer to appoint him as prime minister of the country. The president's proposal came amid new efforts to end the deadly unrest. 5. Pfeiffer previews Tuesday's State of the Union address

White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer previewed President Obama's upcoming State of the Union address on Sunday. 6. China sentences legal activist to four years in jail

A Chinese court sentenced Xu Zhiyong, a prominent legal activist, to four years in prison Sunday, in a case widely seen as proof of the Communist Party leadership's determination to quell any challenges to its power. 7. Dimon gets a 74 percent pay raise

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is reportedly getting a 74 percent pay raise, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. JPMorgan's board voted on the raise this week after cutting his pay in half by $11.5 million last year in response to the "London Whale" rogue trading debacle. 8. German newspaper publishes Nazi leader's letters

German newspaper Welt am Sonntag published a previously unseen trove of letters believed to be written by Nazi SS leader Heinrich Himmler. The newspaper, which says the material is part of an eight-part series, published photos and excerpts from Himmler's love letters to his wife. 9. Cuarón wins top Directors Guild award

Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón won the top honor at the Directors Guild of America Awards Saturday night in Los Angeles, beating out Martin Scorsese, David O. 10. Wawrinka stuns Nadal in Australian Open final

Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka held off an injured Rafael Nadal to win his first Grand Slam title Sunday in the Australian Open final.
