Jan. 24, 1970: President Nixon traveled to Philadelphia to present the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Eugene Ormandy, the world-renowned conductor. Ormandy’s Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra struck up "Hail to the Chief" as Nixon entered. Nixon said it was the greatest experience he enjoyed as president.
