Brand’s promiscuous nature

Russell Brand's libido is legendary in the U.K.

Russell Brand admits he’s not great husband material, said Sanjiv Bhattacharya in Esquire (U.K.). The comedian’s libido is legendary in the U.K., and he once checked himself into sex rehab to get it under control. But in 2010, Brand married pop singer Katy Perry; the marriage lasted only 14 months. Brand, 38, says monogamy was part of the problem. “It’s just hard, isn’t it?” he says. “Because I’ve always had an intrepid fascination with novelty, I can’t have a wife like [other people] do. I’ve always been like, ‘You’re lovely…but she’s also lovely.’” Brand insists that he has almost no control over his sex drive, recounting how it once ruined an encounter with his idol, British rocker Morrissey, backstage at a comedy show. “This is the realization of my childhood dream—my hero, affirming and praising my work. But while he’s saying that, a girl walks past and I immediately look at her. It’s not even a decision. It’s more like ‘breathe,’ or ‘kidneys separate urine from water.’ It’s happening on such a deep level.” Still, Brand suspects the right woman could put an end to his wandering. “If she said, ‘Right you, that’s enough of that, you’re coming with me and this is how things are going to be.’ If she has that kind of strength and she laughs at my jokes, that’s it, I’m done.”
