Charity of the week: College Possible
Since College Possible began, 98 percent of its participants have been admitted to college.
College Possible (collegepossible.org) puts higher education within the reach of low-income students. Founded in 2000, the organization provides high school juniors and seniors with SAT/ACT test preparation and guides them through the process of applying for college and financial aid. The organization also keeps working with students once they enroll in college, offering help with tuition and internships, and has begun working with high school freshmen and sophomores to plan for college. During the last school year, College Possible aided nearly 8,700 students in Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Since the organization began, 98 percent of its participants have been admitted to college, and nearly 80 percent have graduated or are on track to obtain a degree.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
