Best websites for buying unclaimed goods
PropertyRoom.com; PublicSurplus.com; UnclaimedBaggage.com
PropertyRoom.com auctions off items that police, fire, and parks departments have acquired over time, including lost-and-found objects, plus property seized from criminals. “All but a few auctions start at just $1,” and the swag includes computers, jewelry, bicycles, and art.
PublicSurplus.com sells “mostly surplus items, such as office equipment an agency may have overpurchased.” Look for park furnishings and kitchen supplies too. In the “motor pool” category, you’ll find auctions running for decommissioned police cars.
UnclaimedBaggage.com displays goods that have been recovered from unclaimed airline baggage and are being sold from a showroom in Scottsboro, Ala. For now, you have to get to Alabama to enjoy the bargains, but the site promises to offer online sales soon.
