Where to buy...Billy Childish

The artwork of the poet, musician, and painter are on display and for sale at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in New York.

Billy Childish may be the hardest-working man in the art world. A cult figure who has written 40 volumes of poetry and released more than 100 LPs as a musician, Childish is also a prolific painter. His latest exhibition, “I Am the Billy Childish,” includes an impressive collection of books and zines Childish designed, but it’s dominated by canvases done in his brushy romantic style. Childish’s subjects are often men in nature: Sibelius Amongst Saplings, a typical work, imagines the composer out for a contemplative autumn stroll. Van Gogh and Edvard Munch are ever-present influences. At Lehmann Maupin, 201 Chrystie St., New York, (212) 254-0054. Through Jan. 21. Prices range from $10,000 to $50,000.
