If nothing else, this recent animated hit “will make you want to take a trip to Brazil,” said USA Today. Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway voice a pair of exotic birds too predictably destined for romance. Still, the Rio setting gives the film a “stunning, iridescent look” and an “infectious” soundtrack.

Omnibus: American Profiles

The 1950s TV series Omnibus makes fascinating viewing today “not only for who and what it profiles but as a time-capsule glimpse into an era,” said the Los Angeles Daily News. This two-disc best-of set features interviews with Dr. Seuss, William Faulkner, E.B. White, and Frank Lloyd Wright.

This “surpassingly weird” 1968 Otto Preminger comedy is “one of the most uncomfortably evocative films of its time,” said The New York Times. Jackie Gleason stars as a hit man whose plan goes awry when he’s given a dose of LSD. Among the movie’s all-star cast: Groucho Marx, as God.
