Charity of the week: City of Hope
City of Hope is an internationally recognized leader in biomedical research, treatment, and education.
Founded in 1913, City of Hope (cityofhope.org), in Duarte, Calif., is an internationally recognized leader in biomedical research, treatment, and education. It pioneered so-called translational research, which rapidly turns laboratory breakthroughs into practical new therapies. Its groundbreaking work with recombinant DNA technology, gene splicing, and monoclonal antibodies has produced major advances in treating AIDS, cancer, and diabetes. The Sheri and Les Biller Patient and Family Resource Center helps patients and their loved ones navigate the often-bewildering health-care system, while connecting them with resources to help them deal with the physical, emotional, and practical challenges of their illnesses.
Each charity highlighted on this page has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, the largest evaluator of charities in America.
