"A Perfect Getaway is a clever, heart-pounding thriller," said Peter Hartlaub in the San Francisco Chronicle, "and a welcome return to form" for director David Twohy. Starring Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich as a honeymooning couple in Hawaii in danger of serial killers on the loose, this movie features "sharp" dialogue, "strong" acting, and a "bold, interesting pace." Twohy's new film is "enjoyable and suspenseful," said Cary Darling in The Dallas Morning News, and it makes for "an escapist joyride on a hot summer day." But it's "ultimately disposable," and not "the best movie of the summer by a long shot."

It's also an "annoyingly self-aware thriller that isn't half as clever as it thinks it is," said Adam Graham in The Detroit News. A Perfect Getaway features a "Big Twist," but "viewers know the gotcha is coming not only because they've been groomed to expect a third-act left turn in movies like this, but because the film's characters won't stop talking about it."
