The U.S. doesn’t deserve to be on the U.N.’s Human Rights Council, said Hesameddin Borumand in Iran’s Keyhan. The new council replaces the old U.N. Commission on Human Rights, which was disbanded in 2006 specifically because of U.S. anger that countries that violate human rights, such as Sudan, were members. Of course, that anger was pure hypocrisy: The world now knows of America’s “beastly actions” of torture in its prisons in Iraq, Afghanistan, and most of all Guantanamo during the Bush regime. And nothing has changed. President Obama refuses to put the CIA torturers on trial, and he is already backtracking on his promise to close Guantanamo. “His ‘change’ slogan is only a deceit to cover Washington's greedy actions.” The Americans’ claim to value human right is a mask. In reality, they just “want to exploit other countries' oil.”
