The U.S. would welcome the overthrow of the Pakistani government, said Pepe Escobar in the Hong Kong Asia Times. What the U.S. “simply cannot stomach is real democracy and a true civilian government in Islamabad,” which would be a greater threat to U.S. interests than the Taliban. The U.S. has always preferred military dictatorship in Pakistan—it’s much easier to work with. That’s why Washington is now hyping the Taliban threat, pretending that Pakistan is about to fall to crazed mullahs in a “turban revolution.” The “current hysteria disseminated by the Barack Obama administration and United States corporate media” is meant to cause panic and prompt a military coup.
