Air France-KLM withdrew its offer for Italian carrier Alitalia, throwing the struggling airline’s future into doubt. Trading in Alitalia, which loses about $1.6 million a day, was suspended after the news broke. Outgoing Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi backed Air France’s bid, but newly elected successor Silvio Berlusconi wants the airline to stay in Italian hands. (Bloomberg)
