Economists surveyed by the Blue Chip Economic Indicators newsletter put the chance of the U.S. entering a recession this year at 38 percent, but the experts were polled before the weak job numbers and uptick in unemployment were reported Jan. 4. That data “no doubt caused some of our panelists to further trim their forecasts of economic growth this year and heightened speculation about the possibility of a recession,” the newsletter said.
