SonyBMG is preparing to offer some of its music catalog for download in the unprotected MP3 format, in a softening of the last major holdout to online protection-free music sales. Sony will initially sell 37 albums, only in North America, through its own Platinum MusicPass service, which requires users to buy a prepaid card. (AP in BusinessWeek.com)
