When Virginia fifth-grader Isabella Nicola said she wanted to master the string instrument, her music teacher reached out to nearby George Maiversity. “Giving up,” Nicola says, “has never been a thought in my head.”
▪ In 2008, Neil Laybourn talked a suicidal man down from London’s Waterloo Bridge. This week, the two crossed the finish line of the city’s marathon together. The pair became firm friends in the aftermath of that fateful day, when Laybourn spent 25 minutes taling $64,000 for a mental health charity. “I was just thankful I was able to say the right thing,” Laybourn says about the day he met Benjamin.
