The 2018 Honda Odyssey: What the critics say
“The minivan wars are heating up again,” and that’s good news for families. Answering the challenge presented by Chrysler’s award-winning 2017 Pacifica, Honda has overhauled its own three-row peo ple hauler. The new Odyssey is not just stronger and significantly quieter than the topselling model it replaces. It’s “packed to the gills with family-friendly technologies.”
In its higher trim levels, the Odyssey “becomes a futuristic family space capsule.” A feature called Cabin Watch lets the driver keep an eye on the kids via the dashboard screen, while Cabin Talk broadcasts the driver’s voice through the rear speakers and through the headphones the kids might be wearing while streaming a movie on the overhead screen. The driver enjoys other rewards too, because this Odyssey “handles brilliantly,” and its 280-hp V-6 engine makes it “the quickest minivan we’ve tested.”

It has some nifty second-row seats too. Though they don’t fold fiat like the Paci- fica’s, they slide left or right to allow easy third-row access. “In a beauty contest,” our eyes gravitate to the Chrysler. But the “practical, comfortable, configurable, feature-rich, and exceptionally quiet” new Odyssey offers plenty of reasons why it deserves to remain the sales champion.
