Charity of the week
More than 36 million adults in the U.S. struggle with basic reading, writing, or math, making it difficult to read a menu, fill out a job application, or help their children with homework. As the largest adult literacy and basic education membership organization in the country, ProLiteracy (proliteracy.org) is dedicated to building a more literate society by implementing adult-reading programs in the U.S. and abroad. ProLiteracy partners with more than 1,000 nonprofits, schools, and prisons in the U.S. to equip instructors with resources to teach adults basic literacy, English-language skills, GED preparation, and digital literacy. The organization also partners with grassroots organizations in 20 developing countries to improve language literacy. Its efforts help more than 500,000 adults improve their literacy skills each year.
