Hotel of the week
Collective Governors Island
New York City
Glamping has arrived in New York City, said Helene Stapinski in The New York Times. This summer, the upscale camp outfitter Collective Retreats has pitched 37 tents on Governors Island, right in New York Harbor, providing guests with housekeeping, three meals a day, and beds with 1,500-thread-count sheets. Similar campsites are popping up all around the city’s fringes, but only here can you choose a tent with a private bathroom “as big as a Manhattan apartment.” It’s not a pastoral Eden, but at night, the Statue of Liberty and downtown skyline provide a glittering backdrop.
