U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has proposed a week-long truce in the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip, The New York Times reports.

If the truce went into effect, Palestinian and Israeli officials would begin negotiating around a longer term solution for Gaza. The report comes from "an official involved in the negotiations," according to the Times. However, the proposal has not yet been endorsed by Hamas, the official cautioned, nor the Israeli cabinet.
