Disney is making a live-action Dumbo movie

1941's animated Dumbo may not seem like an obvious choice for a live-action remake, but Disney is trying its hand with a new version of the classic film.

Transformers franchise writer Ehren Kruger is writing the script for a live-action Dumbo, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and the film will also add a "unique family story that parallels Dumbo's story." Kruger will produce the film with Oblivion's Justin Springer.

There's no news yet on casting for the film, so we'll have to wait to find out who will voice the likely CGI version of the beloved flying elephant. One thing that's not likely to be present in the remake, though, is the original film's racist stereotypes, including a group of crows whose leader is named Jim.

Here's to hoping the new film does include a scene with Dumbo getting drunk and hallucinating that's as memorable as the one below. --Meghan DeMaria
