Tornadoes made their way through several states Sunday evening, killing at least eight people in Arkansas and one in Oklahoma.

The damage is severe in Mayflower and Vilonia, towns north of Little Rock, CNN reports. Vilonia Mayor James Firestone told CNN that he was unable to get down the main street in town due to the debris. "I am trying to make my way through the downed trees and power lines," he said "What I am seeing, it is a lot of damage. I've been listening to the rescue folks. They're saying people have to be extracted from vehicles.... It looks pretty bad."
