For the first time in history the U.S. has made the Reporters Without Borders' "Enemies of the Internet" list. The watchdog group publishes this annual report to shed light on countries that obstruct the free flow of ideas and information online.

Revelations about NSA spying have earned the U.S. a spot among the ranks of regulars like China and North Korea. The report claims that the surveillance methods employed by the NSA are "all the more intolerable because they will be used and indeed are already being used by authoritarian countries such as Iran, China, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain to justify their own violations of freedom of information."
