If your TV-loving friends have spent the morning rending their garments and crying to the heavens, you can blame Grey's Anatomy, which unleashed a tragic, shocking twist in last night's "How to Save a Life." Wondering what all the fuss is about? If you don't care about spoilers, here's what you missed:

Yes, Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is dead, leaving protagonist Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) a widow as Grey's Anatomy rounds out the remainder of its 11th season.

"His loss will be felt by all," said series creator Shonda Rhimes, who wrote the episode, in a statement. "Now, Meredith and the entire Grey’s Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless."
