Two Uber managers have been detained for questioning over "illicit activity," following protests by French cab drivers and the ban of ride-sharing service UberPOP last week in France. A spokesperson for the Paris prosecutor questioning the unnamed Uber managers confirmed Monday that the questioning was indeed linked to the company's low-cost service that has long frustrated French authorities, The Associated Press reports.

While traditional taxis in France pay taxes and social charges, Uber drivers do not have to pay the same fees or go through the process of getting a costly license, which frustrates both French authorities and the country's taxi drivers. Uber, on the other hand, says that the country needs to update its taxi system and get on the same page as other countries. As the standoff continues, Uber has vowed to keep its services up and running until the country's top court makes a ruling.
