Poll: 7 in 10 voters support school choice
A strong majority — 70 percent — of likely voters support school choice, finds a new poll funded by the American Federation for Children, a school choice advocacy group.
The highest levels of support are found among Republicans, Latinos, and millennials, who endorse the policy at a rate of 80 percent, 76 percent, and 75 percent, respectively. But enthusiasm is rising among Democrats, too, with support increasing by five points to 65 percent in the last year.
Among school choice policies, public charter schools generated more backing (75 percent) than vouchers (53 percent), which can be used for tuition at private schools. However, support for private school choice rose to 65 percent when participants were asked if they endorsed "opportunity scholarships, also known as school vouchers," suggesting messaging is key for school choice activists.
