It sounds like the new Star Wars TV show is basically the Boba Fett spinoff
This is where the fun begins.
After months of speculation, the title and plot of the first ever live-action Star Wars TV show have just been announced. Executive producer Jon Favreau revealed on Instagram this week that the upcoming series follows "the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." This gunfighter will be a Mandalorian, and so the title of the series is, well, The Mandalorian.
If that term doesn't sound familiar, Boba Fett was also a Mandalorian warrior, although to be technical, he is not actually from the planet of Mandalore and is simply wearing Mandalorian armor. Still, considering the show will be about a gunfighter traveling around the galaxy presumably wearing similar armor, it will probably look a whole lot like the planned (and possibly now canceled) Boba Fett spinoff movie. And since a recent Star Wars book hinted that Boba himself could still be alive, might he actually make an appearance on the show?

It also sounds like Lucasfilm is going all in on the space western vibes here based on the title and plot synopsis, so this should be a darker and seedier Star Wars story than the main episodes. Speaking of those episodes, in terms of the timeline, this show is set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, although because it takes place in the "outer reaches of the galaxy," it probably won't cross over with the films very much, if at all.
The Mandalorian will be exclusive to the new Disney streaming service, so get ready to add yet another platform to your monthly bill if you want to watch it when it debuts in 2019.
