The European Union is sending Ukraine a $15 billion aid package

Just a day after the U.S. government offered a $1 billion aid package to Ukraine, the European Union is following suit. The group of countries is prepping a $15 billion package to be dispersed over the next two years. It includes loans, grants, and fresh credit from the European Investment Bank, said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

Details on how the package will be distributed or the conditions the fledgling government has to meet were scarce, but the package comes as Western countries are ramping up pressure on Moscow to pull back its forces from Crimea. Diplomats, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, are meeting today in Paris to discuss the crisis.
