NBC News reverses course, sending Ayman Mohyeldin back to report from Gaza

NBC News announced Friday night that they are sending correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin back to report from the conflict in Gaza, after they had previously pulled him from the area citing security concerns.

The network issued this statement, explaining that such security considerations are "constantly reassessed," and that the network values his reporting:

Ayman Mohyeldin has done extraordinary reporting throughout the escalation of the conflict in Gaza, filing 25+ reports over the past 17 days, including his invaluable and well-documented contribution to the story on the deaths of the four Palestinian children on Wednesday. As with any news team in conflict zones, deployments are constantly reassessed. We've carefully considered our deployment decisions and we will be sending Ayman back to Gaza over the weekend. We look forward to his contributions in the coming days. [NBC News]

Mohyeldin's removal from Gaza had sparked a backlash in the online media world, with some people speculating that he might have been taken off the story because his reporting was sympathetic to the Palestinians in Gaza — most notably his in-depth reporting on the deaths of four children who were killed by an Israeli missile strike on a Gaza beach.
