New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) reportedly wants to run for president in 2020, but first he has to win re-election in 2018. So far he has faced no primary challengers, but actress Cynthia Nixon may throw her hat into the ring, Politico reports. In a recent speech, the former Sex and the City star lambasted Democratic elites for being "too focused for too long, and too intently, on the big money interests that fund its campaigns."
Cuomo — who has been criticized by liberals across the country for enabling Republican control of the New York state Senate, and overseeing a crisis in the New York City subway — responded with typical aggressiveness. In a conference call, he mocked Nixon's celebrity status and suggested Vladimir Putin might be behind her candidacy. Cuomo ally Christine Quinn, the New York City council chair, argued Nixon lacks a reason to run. His pollster Jef Pollack sneered that her candidacy would be a "vanity run."
Cuomo sounds a little worried. Ryan Cooper
