The host of the 2018 White House Correspondents' Dinner, comedian Michelle Wolf, turned in a biting performance Saturday that elicited fierce outrage from both sides of the aisle. Wolf was especially criticized for joking that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who attended the event in President Trump's place, "burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye," with some saying the line was an inappropriate attack on Sanders' appearance. On Sunday, White House Correspondents' Association President Margaret Talev said in a statement that "[Wolf's] monologue was not in the spirit of [the dinner's] mission." For future events, the organization is reportedly considering having two comedians — one liberal, one conservative — or hiring a singer instead of a comedian.
