China is committing massive human rights violations against ethnic Muslims, a report from Human Rights Watch, a non-governmental organization, reveals, and disguising the effort as an anti-terrorism crackdown. Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim minorities living in northwest China have been subjected to mandatory Chinese language and culture classes, and some say their family members have been arrested for practicing their religion or speaking a native language. People are apparently being detained in "political education camps," where they're forced to learn Mandarin Chinese and memorize anti-Uyghur rules; some are tortured and beaten until they admit to terrorism charges. Many Uyghurs have sought asylum in other nations, but China's government has ordered them deported back, and those countries have complied.
