The U.S. intelligence community is increasingly certain that Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman were responsible for the disappearance and presumed murder of U.S.-based Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. President Trump, who previously called for assumed innocence until Saudi officials complete an investigation, told reporters Thursday that it "certainly looks" like Khashoggi has died. He said if Saudi Arabia is found responsible, he would consider "very severe" consequences. The U.S. has asked for audio evidence that Turkish officials say proves that Khashoggi was killed minutes after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, and that Saudi operatives severed his fingers before later beheading him.
