Four people are dead after a gunman opened fire at Mercy Hospital in Chicago on Monday afternoon. The alleged gunman, Juan Lopez, is also dead, though it's unclear if he took his own life or was shot by officers. Lopez was the subject of a 2014 protection order request from a woman who said he was incessantly texting her, police said Tuesday. Despite the legal complaint and his ejection from the city's firefighting academy due to threats against a female cadet, Lopez recently legally purchased four guns. Monday's incident reportedly began when Lopez began arguing with his ex-fiancée, and escalated when a friend intervened. He allegedly shot and killed the woman, a hospital employee, and when police officers arrived, the suspect ran inside the hospital and exchanged gunfire with officers.
