Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at 85, Chanel confirmed Tuesday. Lagerfeld, an icon in his industry who referred to himself as a "caricature," served as the creative director for Fendi and Chanel into his 80s. The New York Times in its obituary described him as "the most prolific designer of the 20th and 21st centuries and a man whose career formed the prototype of the modern luxury fashion industry," while The Associated Press noted he had an "almost unprecedented impact" on the world of fashion. A cause of death has not been announced.
