Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison by a federal judge in Brooklyn. Guzmán, who was convicted in February on drug trafficking charges, was extradited to the U.S. after twice breaking out of Mexican prisons. Guzmán's legal team argued that he was denied a fair trial after reports said some jurors viewed media coverage of the closely-followed trial, and claimed he was framed for the drug smuggling and murder charges. U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan disagreed that the claims of juror misconduct were not thoroughly investigated.
