Rather than go along with the Trump administration's new restrictions on abortion counseling, Planned Parenthood announced on Monday it is leaving Title X, the federal family planning program. The Department of Health and Human Services issued the new rule earlier this year, saying that health care providers who receive Title X funds cannot refer their patients to doctors who perform abortions. Planned Parenthood, which receives about $60 million annually through Title X, offers health care to 1.5 million low-income women every year. Planned Parenthood, the American Medical Association, and other groups say this new restriction is unethical, as it denies women options and withholds medical information from patients.
