The 10 strongest Democratic presidential candidates, as measured by fundraising and polling, took the stage in Houston Thursday night for the third official debate of the 2020 primary campaign. The three frontrunners, former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) began the night with an extended argument over the merits of Sanders' Medicare-for-all health-care plan. The other seven candidates included former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro, who repeatedly attacked Biden for his policies on health care and immigration, and former Congressman Beto O'Rourke, who gave a passionate performance in response to questions about gun violence. The next debate will be Oct. 15-16 and will feature 11 candidates, with the addition of liberal activist Tom Steyer to the field.
