Former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath defeated Kentucky State Rep. Charles Booker (D) on Tuesday in Kentucky's Democratic primary race. McGrath will face Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in the general election in November as Democrats attempt to flip his seat blue and oust the Republican leader. McGrath vastly outspent Booker throughout her campaign, but Booker endorsements from big-name congressional progressives like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). McGrath is a moderate Democrat, which could make her more popular in conservative Kentucky, but analysts still put McConnell in the lead. Booker's campaign picked up steam quickly at the very end, leading to a tighter race than expected between him and McGrath, but McGrath ultimately narrowly fended him off.
