President Biden spoke moments after he was sworn in as president, declaring "democracy has prevailed" and calling on Americans to work together, pooling "all our strength to persevere through this dark moment" of the pandemic as "one nation." "We will get through this [pandemic] together," Biden said. "We must end this uncivil war" of partisan divide, he continued. Biden pledged to re-engage with nations around the world, vowed to work to defeat "white supremacy" in the U.S., and rebuked lies and misinformation spread for political power and profit. Biden said it is on "we the people" to strive for a more perfect union. "This is a great nation," he went on. "We are good people. Over the centuries through storm and strife, through peace and war, we've come so far. But we still have far to go."
